Reflection on EDN 205 (Teaching Strategy) Day5

On the fifth day of our class we discussed about the procedural or the steps of Inductive Teaching strategy in the group and displayed our work in the chart. In the discussion our group mentioned the steps such as:
1. Open- ended Phase
  • Show the student an example / non example of a concept or generalization
  • .where student observe and describe the examples.
  • Give another example or non example.
  • student will again observe and describe.
  • after that student will compare the example and non examples, and let them find the similarities and differences.
2. The Convergent Phase.
  • Prompt students to identify patterns in the examples.
3. Closure
  • Arrive at definition by explicitly stating the pattern in the example.
4. The Application
  • Application of definition with additional example.
After that we pasted our work on the wall and went around to see others work, where I got many new idea and different steps in Inductive teaching discussed by other groups.

Inductive Teaching Strategy (day 4)

We learned about inductive teaching/learning strategy. We did a group activity where by we were ask to make a different group apart expert group. Then different groups were provided with different questions on the  topic Inductive teaching/learning strategy. Then after an hour discussions, we were asked to re join the home group and share on respective allocated topics to the groups.Well they explain that;

Concept of inductive T/L strategy: He explain that it is more of modern ways of teaching where there is less role of teacher and even gave two type of inductive teaching that is guided and unguided.

Purposes of inductive T/L strategy:
  • ·         For motivating students.
  • ·         Enhance class participation.
  • ·         Work as a team to achieve goals.
  • ·         Discover course content for themselves

 Procedural/steps of inductive T/L strategy:
  • ·         Open ended phase.
  • ·         Convergent phase.
  • ·         Closure phase.
  • ·         Application phase.
Role of teache
  •  Provide guidance.

  • Demonstration.
  •  Coaching-only instructing by teacher ,doing by students.
  • Teacher cooperate and foster cooperation in students.
Merits and demerits of Inductive T/L strategy.
Merits:
  • ·         Can classified different types of students.
  • ·         It motivate student to participate and learn more.
  • ·         Involve  observation and inference.
Demerits:
  • ·         Time consuming.
  • ·         Minimum content coverage.
  • ·         It is frustrating to different level of student.
